Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Light and soft; spoon into the cup for accurate measurement.
  • 1/2 cup water Warm helps dissolve sugar and melt butter quickly; substitute vegetable oil for a dairy-free option.
  • 1/4 cup sugar Adds subtle sweetness; substitute coconut sugar for a deeper flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder Gives lift; omit if using very fresh high-rising flour.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Provides richness; substitute vegan butter for dairy-free.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Aromatic finish; substitute almond extract for a different note.
Coating Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup sugar Coarse sugar adds crunch.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Warm and fragrant; increase to 1 1/2 teaspoons for more cinnamon.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, salt, and butter. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Stir in flour and baking powder until the dough pulls away from the sides of the pan and forms a smooth ball.
  3. Allow the dough to cool slightly (about 5 minutes), then mix in vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
Cooking
  1. Scoop small balls of dough and place in the air fryer basket, leaving space between each.
  2. Air fry for about 8–10 minutes or until golden brown and slightly puffed. Check at 8 minutes to avoid over-browning.
Coating and Serving
  1. In a separate bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon.
  2. Toss warm churro bites in the sugar mixture until coated, shaking off excess.
  3. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For a dairy-free version, substitute vegan butter and ensure sugar is vegan. Store cooled churro bites in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 24 hours.
