Method
Preparation
- Slice the onions into thin rings and separate them.
- Soak the rings in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes for added moisture.
Create the Coating
- In a bowl, mix flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- In another bowl, combine breadcrumbs with grated Parmesan cheese.
Coat the Onion Rings
- Remove the onion rings from buttermilk, letting excess drip off.
- Coat each ring in the flour mixture, then dip back into buttermilk, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture. Press gently to ensure it adheres.
Bake
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Place the coated rings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Spray lightly with cooking oil for an extra crunch.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through for even crispiness.
Serve
- Once golden brown and crispy, let them cool slightly. Enjoy them plain or with your favorite dipping sauce!
Notes
For a tangy twist, substitute lemon juice with lime in the buttermilk mix, or toss in some chili flakes for a spicy kick. These can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 2 days and can be frozen uncooked.
