  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails optional) Approximately 16-20 shrimp per lb
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil For cooking
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced About 2 tbsp
  • 1/4 cup honey Use raw honey for deeper flavor
  • 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce Or tamari for gluten-free
  • 2 tsp rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar Used in the sauce
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes Optional, for heat
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter Optional for richer sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch Mixed with 2 tbsp water for slurry
  • 1 each lime or lemon Zest and juice for brightness
  • 2 tbsp chopped green onions For garnish
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds For garnish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Pat shrimp dry with paper towels to ensure a good sear.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, vinegar, and red pepper flakes.
Cooking
  1. Heat oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet until shimmering.
  2. Add shrimp in a single layer and cook for 1-2 minutes per side until pink and slightly golden. Remove shrimp and set aside.
  3. Lower heat to medium and add butter (if using), then add minced garlic for 20-30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the honey-soy mixture and bring to a simmer.
  5. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and simmer until glossy and slightly thickened, about 30-60 seconds.
  6. Return shrimp to the pan and toss to coat, finishing with lime or lemon juice and zest.
  7. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

For a tangy twist, substitute lemon with lime. Use coconut aminos instead of soy sauce for a paleo-friendly dish.
