Preparation
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and layer cubed bread evenly.
- Whisk eggs, milk, cream, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and orange zest until smooth.
- Pour custard over bread, pressing gently so cubes absorb liquid.
- Scatter mixed berries on top (reserve a few for garnish after baking).
- Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 8–12 hours.
Baking
- Bake uncovered at 350°F (175°C) for 35–40 minutes or until the center is set and top is golden.
- Let cool 10 minutes, garnish, and serve with warm maple syrup.
Notes
Tip: For a tangy twist, substitute orange zest with lemon zest or a splash of orange liqueur. To reduce sugar, swap half the maple syrup for mashed banana or unsweetened applesauce. For gluten-free, use certified GF bread.
